Dear Colin,
The world record was accomplished!
The Mongolia 2010 Expedition concluded after 52 days, 8 hours and 49 minutes, having covered 1012.4 miles / 1628.5 km and is recognised as a world record breaking longest solo and unassisted walk ever completed, thus far the longest fully unassisted journey on foot, alone, without assistance, re-supplies, or the aid of machine or animal, in history.
I would like to thank Greentyre for a very generous sponsorship package in the way of Greentyre's for the Mongolia 2010 Expedition. The expedition would not of been possible without them and that's a hard fact!
I am currently shuffling through the endless maze of images and will send you some high quality photographs in due course. You will also receive a signed copy of the pending book and DVD that complements the Mongolia 2010 Expedition.
I have received nothing but good feedback from The Discovery Channel and proposals for a new expedition in 2011 from National Geographic. Details are finally in place and I will be returning to Mongolia in 2011 on slightly different expedition but more globally visual and interesting.
The 2011 expedition is an attempt to traverse the entire 1000 miles / 1600 km of the Mongolian Gobi Desert, the fifth largest desert on earth, alongside the Khongoryn Els, the largest and most spectacular sand dunes in Mongolia, on foot from Bulgan, a sum district of Khovd Province in the west to Sainshand, the capital city in Dornogovi province on the edges of the Gobi Desert and Eastern Mongolian Steppe, using a traditional method of desert transportation: the Bactrian Camel (Camelus bactrianus).
To explore the Nomadic cultures in Mongolia
Produce an authentic and professional documentary film that depicts genuine adventure and the interaction between the indigenous people of the Gobi and the expedition team
To provide the knowledge and enable all aspiring individuals to succeed in adventure and exploration and to inspire them with a life enhancing experience
To strengthen the cultural divides and document and illustrate the indigenous lives, far removed from our own, who have proudly continued their way of life regardless of the spectra of invading globalisation
In May 2011, Desert Explorer Ripley Davenport, will guide a team of ten youth in an exhilarating expedition and adventure to traverse the Gobi Desert to inspire and educate. This will be an expedition in its natural form, exploring a new route and overcoming many hardships and difficulties, including changeable weather, sandstorms, isolation and desert heat against a backdrop of the spectacular Altai Mountains and Gobi Desert. A professional photographer and filmmaker from National Geographic will complement and participate in the expedition to produce an authentic and professional documentary film.
Thank you!
My sincere regards
Ripley Davenport
